PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Winning in the Big Ten Conference hasnt been easy for Rutgers, except when it comes to Indiana. In two-plus years in the conference, the Scarlet Knights (2-6, 0-5) have posted a 4-17 record in the league. They won three times in 2014, once the following year and none this year under new coach Chris Ash.Indiana (4-4, 2-3) is the common thread in the wins. Rutgers beat the Hoosiers 45-23 at High Point Solutions Stadium two years ago and rallied from a 25-point deficit last year in Bloomington to post a 55-52 victory in a game that featured 1,223 combined yards of total offense.Coming off a bye week, Rutgers will try to snap a five-game losing streak and make it three in a row over the Hoosiers when they meet on Saturday. For us, we dont focus on jersey names and logos, Ash said. Its all about going out and playing the best that we can play. We dont talk about wins and losses, its about what its going to take to win.Rutgers had one of its better conference games this season in the week before the bye. It rallied from a 21-3 deficit and took a 32-31 lead with 4:01 remaining against Minnesota before losing on a late field goal.Indiana coach Kevin Wilson saw his team snap a three-game losing streak last weekend with a 42-36 victory over Maryland . The Hoosiers rushed for a season-high 414 yards and had 650 yards in total offense, which tied for the fourth most in school history.Wilson understands Rutgers has changed under Ash, the former co-defensive coordinator at Ohio State. We are looking at them this year and we are evaluating our team this week, Wilson said. It is not a revenge game. To me, every year, every game, every team, every week is different. Here are some things to watch in the game:GIO AGAIN: Quarterback Gio Rescigno made his first career start at Minnesota and woke up the Scarlet Knights offense. He went 22 for 38 with 220 yards and three touchdowns. It was the most yards passing by a Scarlet Knights quarterback in their first start since Chas Dodd had 322 in 2010. The redshirt sophomore completed passes to seven different receivers.I think (Rescigno) throws the ball really well, Indiana defensive coordinator Tom Allen said. That gives them a dimension that they really need to have. It forces you, as a defense, to not gang up and sell out to stop the run. He gives them the ability to hit the big play, but he has also shown the ability to run the ball.HEAVY PACKAGE: Last week, Indiana let three players take snaps at quarterback -- starting quarterback Richard Lagow, a pure pocket passer, backup Zander Diamont, a dynamic runner, and 270-pound freshman Tyler Natee. The combination got the Hoosiers struggling running game off the ground, producing three 100-yard runners. Will they take a similar tack this week? Wilson would rather keep the Scarlet Knights guessing. But even if the Hoosiers do go with the heavy package, theres no certainty it will be as successful.BYE WEEK: Rutgers and Iowa played eight games before getting a bye, the last Big Ten teams to get a week off. The Scarlet Knights should return a little healthier. Rescigno had a week to rest a sore hamstring and free safety Kiy Hester may be back from injury that caused him to miss last three starts.TIPPING THE SCALES: Hoosiers linebacker Tegray Scales has been on quite a run. For six straight games, Scales has been the Hoosiers top tackler and he now has the nations longest active streak of consecutive games with 10 or more tackles (six). Its the longest by any Big Ten player since 2012 and hes tied for No. 3 in the Football Bowl Subdivision for most games this season (six) with double-digit tackles. Scales had 13 tackles, 11 solos, last week in a victory over Maryland.ANNIVERSARY: About 50 members of Rutgers 2006 team are expected back to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the squad that earned the university its first bowl victory. The team went 11-2 and posted a 37-10 win over Kansas State in the Texas Bowl. The Scarlet Knights posted their biggest win ever that season, knocking off No. 3 Louisville 28-25 on Nov. 9 in a battle of unbeaten teams.---AP Sports Writer Michael Marot in Indianapolis contributed to this report.---For more college football: www.collegefootball.ap.orgGolden Knights Jerseys China . That plan didnt go so well early.DURHAM, N.C. -- Virginia has much less in the playbook -- and is doing so much more. With a defensive game plan that first-year coach Bronco Mendenhall called the simplest plan we had yet, the Cavaliers intercepted five passes and forced six turnovers in a 34-20 victory over Duke on Saturday. The five interceptions tied the program record, last accomplished against Miami in 2010.The execution, it matches the current level of our players understanding of the playbook, Mendenhall said. Im still getting to learn them. Theyre still getting to know me.Kurt Benkert threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns, finishing 23 of 41 with touchdowns covering 28 yards to David Eldridge, 12 yards to Olamide Zaccheaus and 3 yards to Richard Burney.Albert Reid also had a short TD run to help the Cavaliers (2-3, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) snap their 17-game road losing streak. The execution appears, I think, to all of us to be improving, and the culture as we all know, was the emphasis to begin, Mendenhall said. Its starting. ... But its fun to see the players happy. Its fun to see the players see that its coming.Joseph Ajeigbes 4-yard touchdown run with 11:34 left pulled Duke to 27-20, and the Blue Devils had the ball inside Virginia territory twice after that but were stopped on downs both times.Daniel Jones threw five interceptions for Duke (2-3, 0-2), and fumbled in his own end zone with 4:24 left after a hard hit from Jordan Mack. Eli Hamback recovered for the touchdown that put the Cavaliers back up by two touchdowns.THE TAKEAWAYVirginia: These Cavaliers looked nothing like the crew that was routed by Richmond in the opener, made Mendenhall a winner in his first ACC game and earned their first road win since a 2012 rout at North Carolina State.Richmond doesnt even feel like this year, Mendenhall said. This time, they did it with defense. After failing to force a turnover in its first two games, Virginia now has nine takeaways in the last three weeks. Juan Thornhill and Bryce Hall had two interceptions apiece.Duke: The Blue Devils pretty much squandered whatever goodwill thhey generated by beating Notre Dame last week, largely because they couldnt take care of the ball.dddddddddddd Jones, who threw three interceptions in his first four games, surpassed that total by throwing four of them in 20 minutes of the first half.Coach David Cutcliffe bristled at a reporter who asked if hed considered replacing Jones with backup Parker Boehme, saying that if I would have considered it, I would have done it, OK?With this loss, its fair to wonder if Duke -- which still faces road games at No. 3 Louisville, No. 14 Miami and Pittsburgh -- will find the four more wins it needs to qualify for its fifth straight bowl game.PLAY OF THE DAYDuke trailed by a touchdown with 98 yards to go and less than 5 minutes to play. It set up a possible Joe Montana-type moment for Jones, who was looking to atone for the four interceptions hed thrown at that point. Scanning to his left for a receiver, he never saw Mack flying in from the right side. Mack leveled him and knocked the ball free, and Hamback pounced on it for the touchdown that sealed it, and Jones threw his fifth interception on the Duke possession that followed.STAT LINEBenkert has thrown for 757 yards and eight touchdowns in his last two games. The East Carolina transfer set the program record with 421 yards against Central Michigan , and was on pace to break that mark before the Cavaliers slowed things down in the fourth quarter. Hes a throw-first guy, Mendenhall said, and I think hes good at it.UP NEXTVirginia: Its all ACC opponents remaining for the Cavaliers, who have an idle weekend before playing host to Pittsburgh on Oct. 15.Duke: The Blue Devils step back out of league play to host Army, but then they have only six days to get ready for a Friday night visit to Louisville on Oct. 14.---Follow Joedy McCreary at http://twitter.com/joedyap.
