CLEVELAND -- A testy win for the Detroit Tigers wound up with Ian Kinsler getting tested for a concussion.Kinsler got his helmet knocked off by a pitch from Trevor Bauer, yelled at the Cleveland right-hander and later was ejected as the Tigers beat the Indians 9-5 Sunday.Bauer hit three batters -- he plunked Tigers star Miguel Cabrera on the left hand in the first inning, then struck Kinsler in the third and Victor Martinez in the knee later in the inning.Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said he didnt think Bauer was trying to hit anyone on purpose, but didnt like the results. If you cant command the ball inside, youve got to maybe not go inside, Ausmus said. This is the big leagues, and if youre going to hit guys in the head and the kneecap then somethings got to give.Bauer (11-8) apologized after it ended.Regardless of game situation, I would never intentionally throw at someones head, he said. That has no place in the game. I know saying sorry for it doesnt really change that it happened.J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton homered as the Tigers defeated the AL Central-leading Indians for only the second time in 15 tries this season. Cabrera added his 2,500th career hit.Kinsler grabbed the side of his head after being hit, was examined and went to first. Bauer tossed his glove to the ground and crouched behind the mound as Kinsler was checked.Cameron Maybin then walked and Cabrera singled to load the bases. Bauer hit Victor Martinez on the right knee, sending Detroits designated hitter to the ground. Martinez was down for several minutes before getting up and limping to first base.Kinsler yelled at Bauer as he walked home from third and motioned to plate umpire Jordan Baker, apparently wanting the pitcher ejected.Detroit starter Daniel Norris threw the first pitch of the bottom of the third behind Rajai Davis, which led to both sides being warned by Baker.Ausmus said Kinsler, who committed a fielding error at second base in the fifth, showed symptoms later in the game.I think as he stood out there longer I think he was getting foggier, Ausmus said. As the game went on I think he started to get a headache where he got hit. After the game I talked to him and he was a little dizzy.Kinsler was ejected by Baker following the bottom of the fifth, which Ausmus attributed to a misunderstanding.I think the umpire thought Kinsler was motioning towards him when he was really just communicating with Miggy (on defensive positioning), and it just kind of snowballed from there, Ausmus said.A day earlier, Kinsler hit a line drive that broke the hand of Cleveland starter Carlos Carrasco.Norris (3-2) gave up four runs -- one earned -- in five innings. Francisco Rodriguez recorded four outs for his 43rd save.Carlos Santana homered in the Cleveland sixth.Uptons two-run shot in the fifth gave Detroit a 5-2 lead. The drive cleared the 19-foot high wall in center field and traveled an estimated 450 feet, and Upton stood at home plate for several seconds admiring the homer before slowly trotting around the bases.Ausmus thought the incidents might have provided some motivation for his team. You get a little bit angry or you get a little more focused, he said. The teams begin a four-game series in Detroit next week with Bauer as one of Clevelands scheduled starters.TRAINERS ROOMTigers: 3B Nick Castellanos (broken right hand) will face pitchers the next two days in Lakeland, Florida. He could return during the final two weeks.Indians: OF Lonnie Chisenhall (strained abdominal muscle), who has been out of the starting lineup since Thursday, pinch hit in the ninth.UP NEXTTigers: LHP Matt Boyd is scheduled to pitch the opener of a three-game series in Minnesota on Tuesday.Indians: RHP Josh Tomlin will start Tuesday against Kansas City, the opener of a three-game series.Custom Browns Jersey China .C. at the helm of the top team in the Eastern Conference. It hardly mattered to him how he did it.To anyone suggesting Benintendi, 22, might be disappointed that a video review turned what would have been his first major league home run in his first game at Fenway Park -- and with his proud parents in the stands --?into an RBI double, he smiled politely and said he still accomplished his goal.It was fine. I was happy with whatever outcome [the umpires] saw, Benintendi, a rookie left fielder, said after the Red Sox won 5-3 in the opener of a three-game series against the New York Yankees. My job was to get that run in from third base, and I did. So it really was irrelevant at that point.Called up last week from Double-A Portland only 14 months after being drafted in the first round out of the University of Arkansas, Benintendi finished 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, continuing a stellar first week in the big leagues. The Red Sox initially planned to start him only against right-handed pitchers, but with eight hits in his first 16 at-bats, he has played his way into an everyday role, according to manager John Farrell. He plays at a very even pulse, Farrell said. Good passes at the plate. Doesnt seem to be disrupted by velocity or secondary pitches. Hes impressed.Said pitcher Rick Porcello, who allowed two runs in eight innings and improved to 11-0 at home: Its crazy. Seeing him get drafted a year ago, and hes up here in the big leagues getting three hits in multiple games, its pretty fun. But you can see why, with his swing and his speed, the things that hes able to do at the plate, why hes such a highly touted player.dddddddddddd Happy hes up here. After singling in his first at-bat and scoring the Red Soxs first run in the third inning, Benintendi hit a 98 mph fastball from Yankees starter Luis Severino off the yellow line that separates the left-field wall from the wall behind the center-field stands, scoring Sandy Leon easily from third. Benintendi stopped at second base to await a call from the umpires, who conferred before signaling a home run.But Yankees manager Joe Girardi asked for a review. Replays appeared to show the ball hitting the yellow line, which would indicate a home run. But replay officials reversed the call and sent Benintendi back to second base. According to Farrell, Fenway Park ground rules state that a ball must hit to the right of the yellow line to be counted as a home run. When the ricochet of the carom hit the top of the wall and not the triangle of any part of the wall behind where it would be out of bounds, that, as Im seeing, is the ruling, Farrell said. I asked but was denied any kind of ability to go out and ask what the ruling was.It mattered little to Benintendi, who scored two batters later on Dustin Pedroias double. Benintendi reached on an infield single in the seventh inning to complete a near-perfect Fenway debut. Its something Ive dreamt of, not just since being drafted but since I was a little kid, Benintendi said. To walk into the stadium and take BP and things like that, especially here at Fenway, its a dream come true. ' ' '
