The Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets will all be in action Tuesday night in the last slate of games before the Christmas break. Viewers in the Jets region will be able to watch Winnipeg battle the Blackhawks in Chicago on TSN3 starting at 7pm ct/8pm et or listen on TSN Radio 1290 Winnipeg at 6pm ct/7pm et. Maple Leafs at Stars - 7pm et/4pm pt Tyler Seguin has carried the Dallas Stars throughout the season, and thats been no different during their longest winning streak. Seguin and the Stars look to continue their surge when they host the skidding Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. Seguin leads the NHL with 25 goals and has 11 and seven assists in his last 12 games, including six points during Dallas four consecutive victories. The Stars (14-13-5) are 12-7-3 when he records at least a point. Seguin sparked his team with a superlative performance in Sundays 6-5 shootout win over Edmonton, helping Dallas erase a 5-2 deficit in the second period after it surrendered four straight goals. Seguin assisted on Jamie Benns goal with 21 seconds left in the period and scored twice in the third to force overtime. Seguin also scored in the shootout and Shawn Horcoff had the winning goal in the eighth round of the tiebreaker. It was a gutsy effort, Benn said. We laid an egg in the second period and we found a way to grind it out for 20 minutes and found a way to win the shootout. We have a lot of character guys in here and we really wanted to finish this road trip off with two points. The third period has typically been the worst for Dallas, which is minus-16 in that period compared to plus-five in the first two. Weve had a few games in the past where weve been down a goal or two in the third and we havent had much of a push, but I thought we dominated the game in the third period, Seguin said. The Stars are trying to win five straight for the first time since April 5-13, 2013. Theyve won five of seven at home after starting the season 1-5-4 there. Toronto (19-12-3) has allowed 15 goals during a season-worst three-game losing streak, a slide thats followed a season-best six-game win streak in which it surrendered 10 goals. Jonathan Bernier allowed 10 goals in losing the first two games of the skid, and James Reimer wasnt much better in giving up four goals on 34 shots in Sundays 4-0 loss at Chicago. The Maple Leafs, who lead the league with 3.3 non-shootout goals per game, couldnt get one by Antti Raanta on 34 shots, including 15 in the third period. It was the second time theyve been shut out. We werent able to turn possession into good quality chances, forward Joffrey Lupul said. And when we did, the puck didnt really seem to bounce our way. Lupul scored twice in Torontos 5-3 home victory over Dallas on Dec. 2, its fourth win in five meetings. He has six goals and three assists in his last nine against the Stars. Nazem Kadri had a goal and two assists in that game and has recorded three goals and four assists in four career matchups. Stephane Robidas, who leads Toronto defensemen with a plus-12 rating, is expected to play after he was a healthy scratch against the Blackhawks, although he is nursing a few aches like most players. Benn has a goal and six assists in three career home games against the Maple Leafs. Canadiens at Islanders - 7pm et/4pm pt (TSN Radio 690 Montreal) The New York Islanders hope to carry their winning streak into the Christmas break, as they shoot for a fifth straight victory in Tuesdays home battle against the Montreal Canadiens. Chad Johnson will get the start between the pipes for the Islanders while Carey Price will be in net for the Canadiens. The Canadiens, who enter today tied with Tampa Bay for first place in the Atlantic Division, won four times on their recent five-game homestand and they hope to keep up the pace in Tuesdays road test. However, Montreal has done most of its damage this season at home, where it is 13-4-1 compared to an 8-7-1 mark as the guest. The Canadiens enter tonight having lost three straight and five of their last six road tilts. After having a three-game win streak snapped on Thursday with a 2-1 loss to Anaheim, the Habs rebounded with Saturdays 4-1 triumph against Ottawa. Montreal scored four unanswered goals to beat the visiting Senators, who grabbed a 1-0 lead early in the first on a short-handed tally. Brandon Prust and Brendan Gallagher scored in the first and second periods, respectively, and Tomas Plekanec and Alex Galchenyuk scored third-period markers to put the game away. We may hit a few bumps along the way, but were working hard and we try to go out there and have fun, Galchenyuk said of his line. Price settled in to make 24 saves after allowing a goal to Erik Condra just 2:50 into the game. Tonights test marks the start of a five-game road trip for the Habs, who will continue the swing Monday at Carolina. The Habs and Isles are meeting for the first of three scheduled encounters in 2014-15. Montreal took two of three from New York last season, but the Isles are 4-2-1 in the last seven encounters. The Canadiens have won two straight and three of their last four at Nassau Coliseum. The Islanders, who are sitting second in the Metropolitan Division, have won four straight overall and three in a row on home ice. New York can match its longest win streak of the season with another victory tonight before getting three days of rest for the upcoming holiday. After tonight, the Isles wont play again until visiting the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday. New York is coming off Saturdays 3-1 win over visiting Tampa Bay. The victory was the Isles 10th in 11 home games and pushed the clubs record at Nassau Coliseum this season to 13-3-0. The Islanders scored a pair of goals in a 12-second span late in the third period to overtake the Lightning. John Tavares whistled a wrister from the slot past Andrei Vasilevskiy with 3:09 remaining to tie the game at 1-1. Travis Hamonic then put a wrister on net from the right point, which was re- directed by Anders Lee into the top left corner to put the Islanders in front. We knew what we were doing with the control of the game, Lee said. We were playing the way we wanted. Nikolay Kulemin added an empty-net goal for New York, which outshot Tampa Bay 48-21. Jaroslav Halak made 20 saves for the win. Coyotes at Oilers - 8pm et/5pm pt The Arizona Coyotes have been very true to their current position in the standings over the last month. Dating to Nov. 23, theyve won twice and seen 12 of their 13 Western Conference opponents distance themselves. The only stragglers are the Edmonton Oilers, who have provided the Coyotes with both of those wins and could again lend a hand Tuesday night at Rexall Place. Its part of a much longer run of success in the series for the Coyotes (11-18-4), who havent lost to the Oilers (7-20-7) in regulation since Jan. 25, 2011. The 14-0-3 stretch includes four wins this season, and Arizona can now complete the sweep. Thats all Dave Tippetts team has going for it at the moment during a 2-8-2 run. Arizona has scored 13 goals in the last eight games. We just have to find a way to score, defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson said. But, I mean, thats not going to cut it. Its considerably better than the Oilers, who are 1-12-6 dating to Nov. 11. Edmonton - 1-16-6 against the West - at least got some offense going in Sundays 6-5 shootout loss to Dallas. Taylor Hall had two goals and an assist, Mark Arcobello scored twice and Teddy Purcell had a goal and two assists. Its all part of a concerted effort to get to the net and cause more traffic in front of opposing goaltenders, and its resulted in eight goals in two games after Edmonton scored just six over the first five games of the skid. For whatever reason we werent doing it consistently enough and we werent getting the results, Purcell told the teams official website. The last couple of games we have been scoring more and its not a coincidence that were going to the net. Hall had gone his previous 11 games without a goal, a career-worst drought, but he has 11 points in his last eight games against the Coyotes. The clubs main focus could now shift to fixing a leaky back end that allowed for a 5-2 lead to slip away. The Oilers have allowed nine goals in two games and 24 in seven. We have to develop mental toughness as a group, interim coach Todd Nelson said. Weve got to work on things in practice with our structure, but it comes down to compete and just refusing to let bad habits creep in. The Coyotes needed two hands to count their bad habits in Mondays 7-1 loss in Vancouver. Mike Smith allowed four of the goals on 11 shots, falling to 0-4-0 with a 5.05 goals-against average over his last five games. Smith is 10-1-1 with a 2.65 GAA in 14 career games against Edmonton. Devan Dubnyk allowed the final three against the Canucks on 29 shots. The former Edmonton goaltender is 1-3-1 with a 3.29 GAA over his last seven games, but hes 2-0-0 with a 0.96 GAA and .970 save percentage against the Oilers this season. Edmontons Viktor Fasth could get a shot at ending an 0-6-1 stretch. Hes 0-2-1 with a 4.26 GAA against the Coyotes. Ben Scrivens allowed five goals against Dallas and has a 2.95 GAA over an 0-3-2 stretch. Hes 0-2-1 with a 3.31 GAA in the season series. Arizonas Mikkel Boedker has five goals and two assists in the four previous meetings this season and 13 points over the last eight matchups. Sam Gagner, who moved to the slightly more favorable side of the Pacific Division rivalry prior to the start of the season, has been limited to an assist in four games against his former team. Jets at Blackhawks - 8:30pm et/5:30pm pt (TSN Radio 1290 Winnipeg, TSN3) As the Chicago Blackhawks look to continue surging at home, their hearts remain heavy following the sudden passing of a popular member of the organization. Playing through their grief, the Blackhawks try to win nine straight home games for the second time in three seasons Tuesday night against the Winnipeg Jets. Hours after learning of the death of 34-year-old assistant equipment manager Clint Reif, Patrick Kane had a goal with two assists, Patrick Sharp added three assists and backup Antti Raanta made 31 saves in Sundays 4-0 home victory over Toronto. In his ninth season with the Blackhawks (23-9-2), Reif was found unresponsive in his home Sunday morning. He was with the team Saturday night for their 3-2 shootout loss at Columbus. Its not every day that you have to go through something like that, defenseman Duncan Keith, a close friend of Reif, told the Blackhawks official website. As the organization continues to process the situation, the players feel as if theyve lost one of their own. (Reif) was just a selfless person, said captain Jonathan Toews, who has four goals and seven assists during a six-game home point streak. He was never thinking about himself, (always) thinking about how he could help others. Hes part of our team. He might as well have been wearing one of these sweaters. With Reif on their mind, the Blackhawks won for the 16th time in 20 games and improved to 12-3-1 at the United Center. In its last eight home contests, Chicago owns a 33-14 goal advantage, has a power-play goal in four straight and killed 22 of 24 penalties. The Blackhawks won nine straight during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season. Kane has four goals with six assists during a six-game overall point streak, and five with eight while also recording at least a point in six straight at home Raanta, who recorded his third career shutout, has a 1.60 goals-against average during a five-game winning streak - all at home - but its uncertain if hell make his first appearance against the Jets (17-10-7) with Corey Crawford back from missing eight games with a leg injury. Crawford, who made 17 saves in his return Saturday, stopped 44 of 47 shots while Chicago dropped the last two at home versus Winnipeg. Former Blackhawk Michael Frolik scored on Crawford 20 seconds into the Jets 1-0 road win Nov. 2, the lone matchup this season. Winnipeg got 33 saves from backup Michael Hutchinson, who has a 1.39 GAA during a 4-0-2 road span beginning with that contest. The Jets are amid a 3-0-3 road stretch, but look to bounce back after blowing a two-goal lead in Sundays 4-3 overtime home defeat to Philadelphia. It was the second game Winnipeg played without Mark Stuart (lower-body injury), who joins other injured defensemen Jacob Trouba, Zach Bogosian and Toby Enstrom. All of whom likely wont return until next month. Were just starting this process, Jets coach Paul Maurice said of dealing with another injury along the blue line. It will be a great test (Tuesday). If you kick the puck into the neutral zone on Chicago all night, theyre going to get too many chances. Ex-Blackhawk Dustin Byfuglien moved back to his natural defenseman position and recorded first goal in six games. He has none in four games at the United Center as a visitor. Teammate Mathieu Perreault has a goal in two straight contests and three with four assists during a seven-game point streak. College Jerseys China .C.
