KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- White Sox closer David Robertsons sixth blown save in the 11th inning cost Chicago a victory a few innings later.Lorenzo Cains two-out single in the 14th inning scored Christian Colon from second base, and the Kansas City Royals beat the White Sox 3-2 on Wednesday night.Tim Anderson delivered a run-producing single with two outs in the 11th to give the White Sox a 2-1 lead, but Robertson failed to hold it.Ive got to be better, Robertson said. Ive got to be able to pick these guys up and end the ballgame. Its what we need.Robertson, who has blown saves in the first two games of the series and has a 15.43 ERA this season against the Royals, walked Hosmer to lead off the bottom of the 11th. Dyson sacrificed him to second and Salvador Perezs double scored Hosmer. Its frustrating, Robertson said. Guys did a great job of coming back there, in the 11th inning, and then I just, I came in and I screwed it all up. I really needed to get it done right there.I didnt make enough pitches. I left balls over the plate. When you walk the leadoff guy, hes going to score. Im frustrated with myself. More frustrated that I let the team down. We really needed this one. We all needed it. Ive got to be better.Anderson, who had struck out four times, hit a soft liner over the head of first baseman Eric Hosmer to score Todd Frazier.Colon opened the 14th with a single and Paulo Orlando sacrificed him to second. Cain laced a single to center to score Colon, ending the 4-hour, 34-minute game, the longest by the Royals this season.Dillon Gee (4-5), the eighth Kansas City pitcher, struck out three in two perfect innings to pick up the victory. Matt Albers (2-5) was charged with the loss.Jarrod Dyson led off the 13th inning with a triple, but the Royals failed to get him home. Dan Jennings struck out the next three batters: Drew Butera, Alex Gordon and Alcides Escobar. After the triple, it seemed like Jennings reached back and got a little something extra, White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. Hopefully we could have gotten a little momentum out of that. But it took another inning. Fourteen pitchers combined to throw 424 pitches. There were 25 hits and 25 runners stranded.White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana limited the Royals to four hits and one run over 7 1/3 innings. He was pulled after Orlandos double in the eighth inning. Nate Jones replaced him and on his first pitch yielded an RBI double to Cheslor Cuthbert. It was Jones seventh blown save of the season.Royals right-hander Ian Kennedy, who has a 0.93 ERA in his past three starts, held the White Sox to one run and six hits over 6 1/3 innings. Kennedy is 0-3 with five no-decisions since a June 26 victory over Houston. The Royals have scored a total of nine runs while Kennedy was on the mound in his past eight starts.J.D. Shuck, who hit .083 over his previous eight games, homered on a 2-0 pitch in the third, the only run Kennedy allowed. That was the White Sox only extra-base hit along with 12 singles.Orlando had two outfield assists. He threw out Omar Narvaez at the plate in the seventh when he attempted to score from second on Shucks single to center. In the ninth, pinch-runner Carlos Sanchez tried to take second on Tyler Saladinos fly out to deep right-center, but Orlando threw him out.QUICK EJECTIONWhite Sox pitching Don Cooper was ejected by plate umpire Pat Hoberg five pitches into the bottom of the first inning for arguing balls and strikes.HAWK ABSENTKen Harrelson, who is in his 32nd season in the White Sox television booth, will miss all six games of this Kansas City and Miami road trip due to illness.TRAINERS ROOMWhite Sox: INF Brett Lawrie (strained left hamstring) has resumed swinging a bat. He looks much better from where he was, Ventura said. Its another step in the right direction for him, but, we dont know exactly how thats going to go.Royals: LHP Mike Minor, who has not pitched in the majors since Sept. 23, 2014, with the Braves and had surgery in 2015 to repair a torn labrum, is rehabbing with Triple-A Omaha. He likely will not rejoin the Royals until September, when the hope is he could make some starts.UP NEXTWhite Sox: RHP Miguel Gonzalez is 0-1 with a 3.65 ERA in two starts this season against the Royals.Royals: LHP Danny Duffy is 4-0 with a 3.67 ERA in nine home starts this season.Custom Tampa Bay Buccaneers Jerseys . To the surprise of many, it isnt the Wolverines but their in-state rivals the Michigan State Spartans. Not too long ago, the toughest questions Baylor football coaches faced were those that brought up the 23rd-ranked Bears weak nonconference schedule.Interim Baylor coach Jim Grobe has had to field many questions about the programs culture.Perhaps the upside of that is no one has asked him about the continuing lack of interesting or challenging September games for the Bears.No. 23 Baylor hosts unranked SMU at 3:30 p.m. ET Saturday at McLane Stadium in Waco, which some in Texas regard as a rise in competition. The Bears opened their season with a 55-7 rout of Northwestern State. It was the most points a team coached by Grobe has ever scored.I think the thing is weve all had games when you scored more points than you counted on, Grobe said. The biggest problem weve got is managing the game. While this weeks opponent is a step up from an FCS foe, however, its uncertain how big a step. The Mustangs went 2-10 under first-year head coach Chad Morris last season and began this season last week by pulling away from a rebuilding North Texas team in the third quarter for an unimpressive 34-21 win that included 572 yards total offense. How stern the test is Saturday might hinge on the health of SMUs quarterback.Matt Davis is a game-time decision, Morris said, because of a knee injury. He rushed for 91 yards and had 155 passing yards with two scores last week.Wide receiver Courtland Sutton and defensive end Justin Lawler were named to the AAC weekly honor roll for their contributions.Sutton, a sophomore, had four receptions for 162 yards and three touchdowns, one a career-long 88-yard catch, the fifth-longest play in SMU history.Lawler, a junior, recorded 3.5 sacks, just an assist off the school single-game record, among his team-high eight tackles. The Mustangs rushed for 272 yards and passed for 300, but they also gave up 311 yards to the Mean Greens passing game -- not a good sign.Grobe is familiar with Morris style from their days in the ACC. Grobe, of course, was the head coach at Wake Forest. Morris was the offensive coordinatorr at Clemson.dddddddddddd.I think offensively Chad is doing the same things he did at Clemson, and when I was at Wake Forest I had to go against that stuff, so I know how hard it is for Phil Bennett and the defensive guys to get ready, Grobe said, referring to Baylor defensive coordinator Phil Bennett. One of the things that Phil Bennett was concerned about last year is that we missed too many tackles. If you look at SMU against North Texas, they broke a lot of tackles and made them miss a lot. Thats a real challenge going into this one for us.Grobe expects the Ponies to spread the field to break off big plays.Thats the thing that Chad will do to you, Grobe said. Hes going to spread you out and force you to make one-on-one tackles. The thing that he did a great job of at Clemson that impressed me is that you feel like you have to go back and play coverage, but the thing is that he loves to run the football. You cant hunker down on one thing. One big item of interest will be Baylor running back Shock Linwoods quest to become the schools career rushing leader. Linwood rushed for 97 yards on nine carries against Northwestern State and needs 107 more to pass former Bear and Pittsburgh Steeler Walter Abercrombie.Abercrombie finished his Baylor career with 3,665 yards from 1978-81.Barring injury, Linwood is going to pass Abercrombie and keep going, perhaps adding another 1,000 yards to the Baylor career mark. After watching Linwood in a game for the first time as the Bears coach, Grobe was impressed. What I really liked about Shock was his energy, Grobe said. When he got on the field you could just tell he was ready to roll. The extra yardage he got the other night was fun to see.The biggest health question for Baylor was safety Travon Blanchard, honorable mention All-Big 12 in 2015, but Grobe said he is not expected to play against SMU after also missing the opener recovering from meniscus surgery.
